Library launches LIMPED    By: Alessandra A. Guimba

view image In response to Chancellor Gilda C. Rivero's directive to monitor the accomplishments of all UP Mindanao units, the Library Information Management Program for Excellence in Development (LIMPED) commenced on February 4, 2009. Participated by the college and university libraries, LIMPED boosted the UP Mindanao Library's holdings since its existence in 1995. More so, it presents the areas where the University can improve its collections to provide better and improved services.

A product of the consolidated effort of college and librarians-in-charge, LIMPED is composed of the Collection Development Project (CDP) and the Library Information Management System (LIMS). Areas covered by CDP are collection strength, accessibility and usability and collection density.

The Library Information Management System (LIMS) kicked off on November 2008. Since then, online news, ongoing library programs and projects, and the Current Acquisitions List (CAL) which are now classified by discipline and curricular offerings, are being posted on the Library's web portal, ALARM. Mr. Ramil M. Casan of the Library Educational Media and Information Technology Office (LEMITO) is the personnel-in-charge of uploading the content of the ALARM.

Dr. Merced, the University Librarian, intends to proceed with its second project, LAMPED, while directing college librarians and the librarians-in-charge to develop databases and upload them to the Library's web portal, ALARM.

POST: April 13, 2009.
