                                                        UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN’S MESSAGE

February 28, 2007, ushered in a new era for UP Mindanao. It was on this date that Dr. Gilda C. Rivero, a biologist, took the helm as the third and first woman Chancellor of the 7th autonomous unit of the University of the Philippines System. Taking off from where her predecessors left, Chancellor Rivero wasted no time and established her vision of ExcelLENCE 2010 that stands for Leadership, Education, Nationalism, Cultural Sensitivity, and Environmental Nurturance. The Library has added Information Delivery since it is its reason for being.

Since that date in February, each unit had to align its programs and services to that vision. In this end-of-term report, Pamalandong, the UP Mindanao Library System's Annual Report, encapsulates the Library's contribution for the past three years. LIMPED's (Library Information Management Program for Excellence in Development) programs are composed of the Collection Development Project (CDP) and the Library Information Management System (LIMS). Click to OpenAreas covered by CDP are collection strength, accessibility and usability and collection density . LIMS integrates the different information databases and systems developed by the Library. Prominent among these are online news, ongoing library programs and projects, Current Acquisitions List (CAL) which are now classified by disciplines and curricular offerings, and the upgrade and enhancement of the portal ALARM . LAMPED (Library Administrative and Management Programs for Excellence in Development), on the other hand, is aimed at excellence in all the administrative requirements of the University Library. Such a program is needed in the light of rapid advancements in technology which the Library System is heavily dependent on. These twin programs are mutually exclusive in enhancing teamwork, efficiency and productivity.

Much has been achieved as performances for the past three years would indicate. As such, the Library System is indeed grateful for all the support, encouragement and words of inspiration it has received from top management, starting with Chancellor Rivero, her executive staff and management committee, down to our maintenance people. Gratitude also goes to our users who form the core of these accomplishments, our Library Friends, stakeholders, alumni chapters around the world, our networks and linkages, and a host of others who continue to bedevil our existence for the better year after year.

Thanks are also due to our library personnel whose knowledge, skills and attitude have made this Pamalandong, a timely report. Kaninyong tanan, ang akong kinasing-kasing nga pasalamat!  DR. BRICCIO M. MERCED, JR.

The Library Information Management System (LIMS) kicked off on November 2008. Since then, online news, ongoing library programs and projects, and the Current Acquisitions List (CAL) which are now classified by discipline and curricular offerings, are being posted on the Library's web portal, ALARM. Mr. Ramil M. Casan of the Library Educational Media and Information Technology Office (LEMITO) is the personnel-in-charge of uploading the content of the ALARM.
